ICS Awards
Honorary Life Membership
Nominations are solicited for Honorary Life Memberships in the International Cytokine Society. Each year, an individual will be awarded Life Membership as a tribute to his/her contributions to the field. Honorary Life Members are accorded all rights and privileges of active members, are exempted from Society dues and annual meeting registration fees, and are identified as Honorary Life Members in the Society Directory. The winner is elected by vote of the ICS Council and will be an invited speaker at the next ICS meeting.
Ed Leonard Prize Fund for Chemotaxis/Chemokine Research
This Award ($1,000 and Meeting registration fee) was established by Dr. Antal Rot in honor of Dr. Ed Leonard, to further excellence in chemotaxis/ chemokine research. This competition is open to any postdoctoral fellow and ICS member. Candidates cannot be junior faculty at the time of abstract submission. A statement from the candidate's scientific mentor testifying to the accuracy of these criteria must be provided.
ICS Young Investigator Award
First, second and third prizes are $1,300, $1,100, and $1,000 respectively, in addition to the Meeting registration fee. This competition is open to any investigator who is a member of the ICS. Applicants must have completed their postdoctoral training and currently hold a junior faculty position or equivalent.

ISICR Awards
The Seymour and Vivian Milstein Award
Individuals who have made exceptional contributions to research related to interferons and cytokines either in a basic or clinical field. The Seymour and Vivian Milstein awards are made possible by the generous gift of the Milstein family. This award represents a pinnacle of scientific achievement in our field and is an important landmark of the society. Nominations should be communicated to the President of the ISICR.
Honorary Membership
Nominees should be individuals who have made substantive contributions to the interferon/cytokine field over much of their careers, either in basic, clinical or applied research. Honorary members are the treasures of the society and provide us with an historical perspective and valued research tradition.
We invite your nominations for eligible candidates for The Seymour and Vivian Milstein Award and Honorary Membership, both prestigious symbols of recognition by our society for outstanding achievements. A brief (one to two page) description of the reasons for your nomination and the CV of the nominee should be sent to the ISICR President by May 1, 2008:
Eleanor N. Fish, Ph.D.
Canada Research Chair in Women's Health & Immunobiology
Professor, Dept. of Immunology, University of Toronto
67, College Street, Rm. 424
Toronto, Ontario M5G 2M1
Tel: 416 340-5380
Fax: 416 340-3453
e-mail: en.fish@utoronto.ca
The nominations will be collated, and passed on to the Chair of the Awards Committee in July. This committee will then prepare a short list of candidates and vote for winners of the awards. As specified in the ISICR Constitution, the final vote of the Awards Committee is subject to the approval of the ISICR Board of Directors.
The Seymour and Vivian Milstein Young Investigator Awards
ISICR members who attend the 2008 ISICR meeting in Montreal, Canada and who have received a Ph.D. or M.D. within the previous 8 years are eligible. Every year up to five awards are granted to individuals who have made notable contributions to either basic or clinical research. This award is provided by a generous gift of the Milstein Family. We urge every eligible individual to apply for the awards. A CV and letter of recommendation should accompany the application. We also ask more senior laboratory advisers to encourage their associates to apply. Deadline to Submit your 2008 ISICR Award Application is July 18, 2008 .
The Christina Fleischmann Award to Young Women Investigators
The rules for this ISICR award are the same as for the Seymour and Vivian Milstein Young Investigator Award (see above) except for gender and that candidate is less than 10 years after receiving a PhD or M.D. degree. Every year the Christina Fleischmann Memorial Award is presented to a young woman ISICR member who has made notable contributions to either basic, translational or clinical research within 10 years after receiving their Ph.D. or M.D. This award is made possible through the generosity of the Fleischmann Foundation and is dedicated to the memory of ISICR member and outstanding interferon research scientist Christina Fleischmann.
Seymour and Vivian Milstein Travel Awards
ISICR members who attend the 2008 ISICR meeting in Montreal, Canada are eligible for Travel Awards. They are provided through a grant from the Milstein Family as the Seymour and Vivian Milstein Travel Awards, based on the scientific merit of the abstract and financial necessity. However, this award does not exempt payment of the registration fee. Please note that there are no age restrictions to this award. However if both senior and junior members from the same laboratory apply for an award, preference is given to the junior member.
Joint Award
Boltzmann Award
The Boltzmann Award, established by Austrian scientists, is meant to encourage international scientific cooperation in the field of cytokines. One award of 2500 USD is granted to a pair of scientists from two countries selected jointly by ICS, ISICR and ECS Awards Committees for an outstanding scientific presentation (oral, poster) at the joint meeting of the societies. Age of the authors nor membership in either society is a factor for selection. Work resulting from exchange programs (e.g., a postdoc in a foreign country publishing his findings with his host) will not be considered. To enter this competition, candidates must submit an abstract and tick the appropriate box on the form.
